- OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE 2008 FIRE SEASON 9:16 pm May 15th 2008
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S. Forest Service (USFS), Tule River Reservation Fire Department and Kern County Fire Department (KCFD) will announce an “Interagency Declaration for the 2008 Wildland Fire Season” at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16th.
- Eight Students from Kern County Earn State History Honors 4:38 pm May 14th 2008
Eight students from Kern County schools won state honors at the History Day in California competition which concluded May 11 in Sacramento. The annual competition focused on the national theme “Conflict and Compromise in History” and brought together those students who had won History Day competitions in their own home counties to challenge for the title of state champion. Kern County students won in four separate categories and will represent the state at National History Day from June 15-19 at the University of Maryland.

The Kern County Board of Supervisors recognized six people today that exemplify excellence in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system. Peers and employers nominate EMS personnel of the year. One person is selected from each of the certified and licensed disciplines of EMS. In addition, a service award and a lifetime achievement award are given.
