Kern Detention Deputy Arrested

At about 1:00 PM, on Friday 7/18/08, Sheriff’s Detectives investigated the report of a Kern County Sheriff’s Extra-help Detention Deputy, making inappropriate sexual advances towards an inmate assigned to the Work Release Program.



The Work Release Program is an alterative to full time incarceration. Inmates are allowed to serve custodial time during the day and return home at the end of each work day.

An adult male inmate assigned to the Work Release Program reported that, Extra help Detention Deputy Fredrico Tafoya, under threat of being removed from the Work Release Program, solicited oral copulation. Tafyoa was assigned supervision of inmates assigned to a work crew, participating in the Work Release Program.

The subsequent investigation revealed that Detentions Deputy Fredrico Tafoya (26 yrs.), solicited oral copulation. Tafoya had been employed (4) months with the Sheriff’s Office.

The inmate was not injured or physically assaulted.

Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Fredrico Tafoya for the following violations:

One count of False Imprisonment (PC 236)
One count of causing a person to expose themselves (PC 314.2)
One count of Attempted Oral Copulation under Color of Authority (PC 664/288a (k))

He was booked into the Sheriff’s Central Receiving Facility. His bail is set at $22,500 dollars.

Tafoya’s Temporary Extra Help position with the Sheriff’s Office has been terminated.

    I know who Mr Tafoya is and he has ruined many lifes, his wife and kids and he also has a girlfriend with a baby on the way how do you have all that and then turn gay??? was the two woman not enough how embarresing for them...... UP close and personal.

    I've known Rico Tafoya since we were kids and I've always known he was gay. What gets me is how he was able to fool his love ones all this time. I'm really discused on how he abuse his attority behind his badge.
