Garces High Principal Dies
Bill Curtis By: Bill Curtis
1:56 PM Monday, June 16th, 2008

Robert Garcia, principal of Garces Memorial High School and an Arvin native, died Saturday after a long bout with pneumonia.

Garcia was born and raised in Arvin, and first came to Garces in the 1970s as an instructor. He moved to the Bay Area and lived there until his return to Garces in fall 2005 from St. Francis High School in Mountain View.

During his time at Garces, Garcia is credited for bringing student-centered symposiums and block scheduling, where certain classes are held certain days and are longer, similar to college. In total, he had more than 30 years of teaching and administrative experience.
