Arvin police Lt. Olan Armstrong fell and injured himself while directing traffic Friday and was airlifted to Kern Medical Center. Armstrong was directing motorists away from southbound I-5 because of a closure caused by a chemical spill earlier in the day.

Armstrong was in fair condition at Kern Medical Center at 4:30 p.m.
Police Chief Tommy Tunson said a motorist became angry with Armstrong and argued with him shortly before Armstrong fell about 12 p.m. Tunson said there is no indication at this time that any crime was committed.
