Firefighters douse house fire in Arvin

June 5, 2008 at approximately 11:36 am, Kern County Firefighters received a rePort of a structure fire at 1432 Durham St. in Arvin. When fire personnel arrived on scene they encountered a single family dwelling that had light smoke showing.



When fire personnel arrived on scene they encountered a single family dwelling that had light smoke showing.

Upon entry they found a fire in the living room. Crews made a quick knock down of the fire and
searched the structure for occupants. There was smoke damage throughout the home. The homeowner attempted to control the fire prior to Fire Department arrival, and received first degree burns to his arms; he refused any treatment or transport. Red Cross was notified to respond to assist the residents with clothing and short term shelter.

Fire damage is estimated to be $67,000 dollars. Fire crews were able to save approximately $37,000 of property. The cause is still under investigation.
